For 2022, TPG is continuing with TD and F5J formats, alternating each month. This is a 10-
contest series, with no events in August or December. Unless otherwise noted, TD events will
be held at the Encinitas Flight Center and F5J events at the Poway Flight Center.
Who can participate?
All pilots are welcome. You just need current AMA membership, and being a TPG member gets
you a discount on the entry fee. Don’t be discouraged if you are not flying the latest high-dollar
molded ship. As long as it is safe to fly, come out and have fun!
Contest Formats
TD events – there are two competition classes: Unlimited and RES. Unlimited may be flown with
any non-motorized sailplane. RES may be flown by any non-motorized sailplane controlled only
by rudder, elevator and spoiler (no movable trailing edge may be used on the primary wing).
F5J events – these will be conducted according to the U.S. F5J Tour rules (with no flyoffs).
Current F5J Tour rules: http://www.f5j-usa.com/contest-rules/
All contests will have at least four rounds, subject to weather or other conditions. Contest
format and tasks will be announced on the TPG Google Group and RC Groups in advance.
Entry Fees
TD events – $5 per class for TPG members; $10 for non-members (one class), $15 for two
classes.
F5J events – $5 for TPG members; $10 for non-members
Contest Locations
TD contests will be flown at the Encinitas Flight Center. Field use restriction: if there is at least
0.25 inches of rain within the five days immediately preceding a contest, the contest will either
be rescheduled or cancelled. No motorized planes are allowed at the Encinitas field.
F5J contests will be flown at the Poway Flight Center.
Event registration and payment will be through F3X Vault, with pilots self-entering scores on
their phones/mobile devices. F5J contest entries may be capped for logistics reasons, and entry
will generally close one day before the contest. Registration details for each event will be
provided in advance.
Contests generally start at 9:00 with a pilot’s meeting shortly before.
